London Apartment Condos on 13th Floor

Did you know there are 5 condo apartment buildings in London that have apartments on the 13th floor? (they don't skip the 13th floor like the vast majority of buildings). They're at 330 Ridout, 240 Villagewalk, 1030 Coronation, 1235 Richmond, and 505 Talbot, and all were built between 2010 and 2018.

Unusual Building in Sarnia

I wonder what the story is behind this unusual place? It's in Sarnia, on the corner of Confederation and Mitton Street South. I'd noticed it when driving by, and anyone that knows me won't be surprised I needed to stop and check it out 😃
A title search shows it is labelled as a gas station (plus possible auto shop), and is on a tiny 48 x 58 foot lot. It last sold in 1996, but further research also shows the city attempted to sell the property in 2007 for unpaid property taxes.

Ancient Lights

I recently learnt of an easement in British law called the Right to Light, better known as Ancient Lights.
It basically allows a home owner, who has had a window that has received natural light for at least 20 years, to forbid an adjacent property owner from constructing anything that would block this natural light to the window.
I read about an unfortunate situation where a person bought a house in England in the 70's, and didn't notice that one of the windows had been blocked from the neighbouring property (as seen below), in an effort to bypass this easement law. The neighbour was successful, and later was able to construct a building on their land that continued to block this window.

Hidden Streets in Kensington Market

I also visited Toronto's Kensington Market on the same day I stopped by to see the Greek-themed house on Shaw.
Did you know there are several residential streets that are rather hidden in Kensington Market? These photos are from Fitzroy Terrace and Kensington Place.
Oh, and you gotta try Sleepy Pete's sandwich shop in Kensington Market. It's simply excellent.
